WalkSafeNow
WalkSafeNow is a mobile app that helps people choose walking routes based on real-world safety signals, not just distance. It combines official incident data (where available), lighting/sidewalk coverage, traffic speed, time-of-day risk, and user-reported hazards (broken sidewalks, harassment hotspots, poorly lit blocks) to score routes. The app gives you two or three route options: fastest, safest, and “balanced,” with clear explanations for why a route is recommended. It also includes a “walk with me” session that shares live location with trusted contacts and triggers a check-in if you stop moving unexpectedly. Brutal reality: you won’t beat Google/Apple on maps, so the product must win on safety-specific layers and trust. The MVP should launch in a few cities where data quality is decent and expand cautiously.
