WattOrGas

WattOrGas is a mobile + web app (traditional app with light AI) that helps shoppers compare hybrids and plug-in hybrids based on their actual commute, climate, and charging access. Users enter a few basics (zip code, parking/charging situation, typical trip lengths, highway vs city mix, electricity and gas prices). The app then simulates realistic fuel/electric split and estimates monthly cost, CO2, and break-even time across shortlisted models. It also flags “gotchas” that marketing glosses over: winter efficiency drops, short-trip engine warmup penalties, battery-only range shrinking at highway speeds, and whether a PHEV is likely to be driven like a regular hybrid. It won’t pretend to be perfect—results are ranges with confidence levels and clear assumptions. The goal is to stop people from overpaying for the wrong powertrain and to make comparisons understandable in 5 minutes.
