WelfareWatch is a mobile + web AI app that helps shoppers and small food businesses quickly sanity-check animal-welfare claims on meat, dairy, and eggs. Users scan a product barcode or label, and the app returns a plain-language “confidence summary” based on verifiable signals: certification legitimacy, audit frequency, standard strictness, supply-chain transparency, and brand track record. It also flags vague marketing terms (“farm fresh,” “humanely raised”) and explains what they do and don’t guarantee. The app doesn’t pretend to know the farm conditions for every item; instead it grades the quality of evidence behind the claim and suggests better alternatives available nearby. A lightweight business dashboard lets cafés and meal-prep brands generate a welfare sourcing statement with citations they can actually defend. The goal is to reduce greenwashing and make welfare-forward choices easier without requiring users to become experts.
